EagleMed: Saving Lives
A Case Study
SOMEWHERE IN KANSAS, emergency personnel are battling to save the victim of a farming accident. Deciding that the patient requires airmedical transport, they call EagleMed.
EagleMed is well equipped to respond. Launched in 1982 as the medevac arm of Ballard Aviation Inc. in Wichita, KS, EagleMed operates seven Eurocopter AS-350B2 AStars, one Eurocopter AS-355N TwinStar, and five Beech King Air C90s located among 10 airbases in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
EagleMed also has, according to its company brochure, "the most advanced emergency air ambulance flight dispatch center in the United States." This highly integrated center relies on the tracking and voice telephone features of the Sky Connect TRACKER system. TRACKER uses the Iridium network of 66 satellites to provide voice and tracking services any time, anywhere, and at any altitude.
EagleMed's dispatch system relies on Flight Explorer's aircraft situational display software and Softtech's Flight Vector computer-aided dispatch software. By combining the advanced technologies provided by Sky Connect and the integrated dispatch software, EagleMed's airmedical operation is achieving new levels of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
